i wonder how quick these little r2 cpus do the sha1 checks required for bittorrent. can someone post speed results?

shibby20 do you plan to add an ip filter option? Maybe a setting to enable or disable ip filtering and also a way to update the ip filter file. looks good so far. havent had a chance to try it just yet though.
  6. shibby20

    shibby20 LI Guru Member

Do you mean a blocklist? GUI has to be simple, for newbie in particular. Advanced users can simply use a custom configuration and add options not included in GUI.
  7. Azuse

    Azuse Networkin' Nut Member

Ip filtering is utterly useless. It's a placebo for people who don't really understand how torrents work, or understand that any client can log, and hence is a waste of time.

I am curious how well the little cpu cope though. Not wonderfully I assume since the default peers are quite low (and upload slot proportionately high).

This was downloading Mint "Julia" but the router was still responsive. The download speed maxed out at 1.5MiB/s. I'm on a 20mb line so should max out at 2.5MB but I was writing to a flash memory card and not a hard disk drive so maybe that has an impact.

shibby20: The only issue I've found so far is that the web password keeps reseting itself to the default - it doesn't save my change. Apart from that :biggrin::biggrin:. Thanks!

did your transmission source code is the latest 2.21?
they really did great things in this release when the router resets.
in 2.13 after reset the transmission checked all the torrents - it took allot for big torrents like hd movies -> 2.21 has this issue fixed.

yes i have tomato with transmission 2.21 but first i have to make more stability test.

37H2qos is running great. I have enabled automatic blocklist downloading/updating via a script, and it works very well. Seems I can disable less and less optware services everyday. Thanks.

Edit: The only thing missing is Toastman's QOS.........I like the labels. :)
Edit 2: Thanks Toastman for the new updates.

bkmo and others, don't despair if you keep changing from one firmware to another just to try, and the prospect of entering all of your config from scratch seems daunting. The method described here is very easy:

    http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showpost.php?p=362345&postcount=221

I just use the Tools/System command box to list the contents of NVRAM in this special format, and cut and paste it either directly into another router's system box or into a text file. You can copy your QOS rules etc. in seconds like this! After you've cherry picked the important bits out, don't forget to "nvram commit".

Many people will find they can regain a lot of NVRAM space by doing this occasionally.

    Nice build shibby20 :)

Advanced / Wireless / Interference Mitigation shows as 'None' after NVRAM erase - but the default, with '*', is 'WLAN Auto'.

Transmission seems to run OK. The download is somewhat up and down - not a constant speed. Still testing though...

I am having problems running Toastman's latest build 7454 with your latest BT 2.2.2 code.
If I don't use the custom command "rpc-authentication-required": false, I always get a 403 not authorized after reboot when going to the transmission gui. The problem with this build is the command is always written as "true" to the settings.json and is not overwritten by the custom commands. I had to set settings.json read only to get it to work after a reboot. Thanks.

edit: That didn't work either. I have removed the custom commands for "rpc" and have deleted the .settings directory on the disk and it seems to be working. I will post back if I have problems.
  26. shibby20

    shibby20 LI Guru Member

you should see error "Cannot set "rpc-authentication-required" option here. Authentication is always required" because its forced by me in script.

btw i restored previous version of Transmsision. Version 2.13 is more stable.

When compiling Transmission, it is *critical* not to use the default -mips32 flag, since it will misalign critical structures.

Also, the QNAP guys swear by these additional CFLAGS, though I personally think they are mostly snake oil:

    Code:
    -funit-at-a-time --param large-function-growth=800 --param max-inline-insns-single=3000

I like this release, all is working great. Transmission 2.2.2 was a bit buggy and heavier on resources for me. I created an autorun script on the root of my data drive to detect a factory reset and restore all the custom settings that differ from default. Now I can flash all your new releases and have the nvram cleared and booted back up to where I left off. Thank you and the other devs. for the great work.

P.S does anyone have moblock working with Tomato yet? I know Rodney has compiled it, but has anyone a working config.?

I haven't seen any success reports, but unless you're doing more P2P than just Transmission, I personally find the built-in blocklist support to be more than adequate.

So I switched from DD-WRT to this version of tomato specifically for transmission being integrated into it. Now I am having a problem configuring it so I can access the web gui. Whenever I go to 192.168.1.1:9091 i get an error that says "403 Forbidden Unauthorized IP address". Where is the settings.json file so I can edit it? In DD-WRT it was in the download folder but I can't seem to locate it in Tomato. Thanks for any info.
  35. shibby20

youu cannot edit settings.json file manually. You can only set all options via GUI tomato.
Settings.json file is in download_dir/.settings/. Can you show me this file?

Have you any options set in custom configration? By default whitelist should be disable.

I reflashed my router and now it is working, but I can't seem to change the password for accessing transmission. Everytime I change it, it reverts back to the default. Is this a known bug or am I doing something wrong?

If you check earlier in this thread you'll notice that I reported this problem. It was because I was using Firefox rather than IE but I believe Shibby fixed it in a later release. Maybe reverting back to 2.1.3 has brought the issue back.

how it possible? By default whitelist should be disabled. What version of tomato have you installed right now?

changing password in FF works in latest release.

Tomorrow i release new version with blocklist via gui and transmission-remote tools.

As i mentioned before the whitelist issue is resolved after I reflashed. I dunno why it was enabled.

    I am using version: Tomato v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta-037H K26 USB Ext-BT

As far as the browser goes I use Chrome Tomato v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta-037H K26 USB Ext-BT
primarily but I have tried FF also I am using Ubuntu, not sure if that makes a difference.

And is the remote access currently working or will that be enabled after tomorrows release?

I just noticed post #24 about the "interference mitigation" setting. I am finding this one setting to be responsible for so much hassle with poor wireless strength and dropped connections, that I will be setting this to "off" as the default in all my builds. Unless people really need this (and I have not seen any reason yet) this is not a particularly useful thing to have enabled.

Finally figured out the remote access issues that I was having. The issue was that I hadn't cleared the nvram after flashing. I am still new to Tomato after using DD-WRT for the last 3 yrs and I know that clearing the nvram is recommended on dd-wrt after flashing but I never had any issues with it so I never bothered with it unless I actually wanted to reconfigure the router from scratch.

shibby, you and Vic should consolidate your code and have one branch for RAF + VPN + BT as your version and his are essentially the same, i'd rather not bounce around between his branch and yours, whoever updates first. Just a thought.

I'm sure most of us will agree a single consolidated branch of Tomato RAF + VPN + BT is better instead of 2 people releasing their versions of it with basically the same features.

i am not sure... We tried to have one branch but this made a complication with update local branch erevy time before commit new changes. If one forget upgrade local branch from remote repository and push new update, previous commit are deleted. Well we decidied to have 2 branch: tomato-shibby and tomato-RAF. Also i made branch Transmission. Git allow merge branches with very easy an nice way. I think this is the best solution at the moment ;)

I just wanted to report that I believe I may have found a bug as well. I have yet to 100% confirm it as I have just done some minor testing at this point, but I can say that the issue did not occur before I flashed shibby's BT build a couple of days ago. I'm posting this to see if others can test this, I will do more testing when I get home from work.

To start, I want to say that I'm running Tomato 1.28.9054 MIPSR2-045 K26 USB VPN-BT, and I originally though it may be an issue where I didn't clear the NVRAM after flashing from Victek's BT build, so I proceeded to clean the NVRAM after flashing to shibby's just to amke sure, but even after doing this and re-keying all my settings, the problem came back. Also note that I have VPN disabled, I am not using a VPN, as I read this can be a possible issue. One last note is that I have the internal DNS forwarder disabled, so all my PC's/printers use real DNS addresses. All my hostnames/devices are set on the devices themselves, not as static entries in Tomato.

The issue is that when I use OpenDNS as my DNS servers, any internal hostnames/computer names resolve to an external OpenDNS IP when I ping or tracert them. For example, My network printer's hostname "hpps2610" resolves to an external IP address belonging to openDNS, wheras it always used to resolve to 192.168.0.50. If I disable OpenDNS, "hpps2610" resolves to the correct 192.168.0.50 internal IP. This behavior is very recent, as I've been running Vic's builds with OpenDNS for years and I've never had this issue.

I have yet to determine if this is simply a recent change on OpenDNS's end, or an issue with the firmware. I will flash back to Vic's build tonight and clear NVRAM and test to see if that solves it, as I never had the issue before on his builds.
  77. Dashiell

    Dashiell LI Guru Member

This issue came up a lot with OpenDNS and early tomato builds. Setting a static dhcp entry solves the issue. Also, i find that setting a "domain name" in the Identification field (ie: mynet.lan) helps the issue. Your address will resolve to hpps2610.mynet.lan.
  78. GhaladReam

    GhaladReam Network Guru Member

All of the devices in my LAN actually have static DHCP entries. However i've never had to set anything in domain name before, it always worked before without having to set that.
  79. GhaladReam

    GhaladReam Network Guru Member

Sorry if I caused any trouble, but I actually found out what the problem was, and it took a bit of digging, but I discovered that if you enable the WINS server under USB and NAS-->File Sharing, it will actually disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on Windows boxes, thus causing the headache described above. I hadn't actually had a reason to attach an HDD to my router until this BT firmware, which is why I never noticed the issue before. Disabling the WINS server made NetBIOS over TCP/IP to become re-enabled, which meant Windows looked for the DNS entry's NetBIOS name (hpps2610) before going out to the internet to find OpenDNS's typo correction redirection. I suppose force-enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP would also work, but I took the WINS disabling route instead.

This doesn't seem to fix Linux boxes, since they don't use WINS, but on my one Linux laptop I hadn't used it so long I noticed my printer was mapped to an old internal IP I had set it to a long time ago, so it was never even using DNS in the first place, so I wouldn't have noticed anything. However on Linux, after setting my printer to hpps2610.local it redirects to the correct IP.

Sorry for accusing your FW of having bugs shibby, keep up the good work!!!

which version of transmission is more stable? 2.13 or 2.22? Many polish users tell me, version 2.22 is a mistake and transmsision can turn off without any errors. They back to version with BT 2.13 and now transmission doesnt crash.

that is what I say...:/ You can try version with BT2.13 (043).

In my opinion tomatousb build52 with older broadcom driver is better and more stable, and has better performance of Wireless. I compiled yesterday build52 version with RAF and BT 2.22. Uptime with enable BT on my netgear 3500L is now 11h, cpu load with 4 torrents file - 0.14/0.11/0.8. I will test it for few days and we will see...

Uptime on my RT-N16 with shibby's 045 build + VPN + BT with BT enabled seeding 21 torrents, is 0.00 / 0.00 / 0.00 up 4 days so far, solid as a rock.

@bluesky, the only difference I can see between your settings and mine, is I don't use a download or upload limit, and I have DHT and PEX enabled. I will change some of these settings to see if they affect stability.

I also found out one more bug on 045 version one. after one day with not stable BT runing, finally got one download finished. I was trying to copy the file to my computer. The USB storage (copy and past) speed only has 380kbs. Usually, it is about 5Mbs. USB storage speed never has issue before upgrade firmware. I haven't seen any wireless performance issue yet.

I don't have VPN enable. Let me try to run without download and upload limit.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this but I hope someone can answer my question. I have an RT-N16 with a 320GB hd that I use for sharing and backing up files and also downloading torrents through Transmission. I am pretty disappointed with the speeds I see when accessing this drive wired and wireless. Wireless N I see speeds around 1-3Mb and wired (Gb lan) I see around 10Mb. I have been thinking of getting a NAS ethernet server, something like a D-Link 321 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822155017&cm_re=d-link_321-_-22-155-017-_-Product. Would this give me faster transfer speeds and also would Transmission that is built into Tomato be able to write to that nas drive or would it only be able to write to a nas drive connected by usb?

Thanks for any info or alternative suggestions!

The speeds you are seeing are pretty typical of USB on Tomato - the best performance is when your USB drive is formatted as ext2/3. I can't speak to the performance of the D-Link NAS, but assuming it is shared out via CIFS, you can mount it on Tomato and have Transmission store the files there.

on dir-323 you can install transmission or even debian. Maybe on dir-321 you can also install alternative software or some fun_plug.... You have to search. I didnt see 321 model.

If the USB drive speed performance can reach 10MBs is really super fast already. I think he need the USB 3.0 drive plug into his pc.

10 megabits per second isn't that blazing (Mbs). 10 megabytes per second (MBs) isn't that fast either, as far as rotating media is concerned, but fairly fast for USB. ;)

    USB-IP

Shibby, Is there any way you could build the kernel modules for usbip into your new builds? Thanks.

The drive I am using when connected to my laptop directly will transfer files at about 30 MB/s. And Sorry I mistyped, wirelessly I see about 1-3MB/s and with a Gb wired connection i see about 7-10MB/s.

I'm testing the beta 45 on rt-n16 since today. Btw transmission (only) since 2.22 can manually add trackers. Try it with transmission-gui; it's like utorrent.

Same here. I have to either reboot or re-enable BT & it keeps repeating.

I strongly suspect many of the reported (recent) crashes of Transmission 2.22 are a result of the Linux kernel low-memory killer terminating Transmission for being the biggest consumer. Any router with less than 64MB of RAM is -NOT- a good candidate for running Transmission (particularly if you are using blocklists!), and 128MB with USB swap is preferred.

    @bkmo

    http://update.groov.pl/usbip/

my usbip utils package and kernel module for build52 and current tomato-rt git repository.

On my build52-030 modules loading without problems

    usbip utils untested. Feedback welcome.

@rhester72 - i agree. Can you look at Makefile of Transmsision (libevent and libcurl also) and tell me what do you think. Maybe you will change something? ;)
    ... on bottom. Thx
